Leia completed her Honours B.A in psychology at the University of Waterloo with a focus on developmental and educational psychology. She went on to complete a clinical MSW at Boston College and was awarded a PhD. in Social Work from Boston College in 2016. Her area of research focuses on posttrauma adaptation, with a particular emphasis on wellbeing, resilience, and posttraumatic growth across the life course. During her studies she developed an interest in restorative justice frameworks and the role of forgiveness in post-conflict environments as a tool for healing and rebuilding trust. Leia has had the privilege to work on multiple cross-national research teams focusing on international social work practice and research in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
